Schema Markup Before and After

Which Search Engines use Schema Markup protocol?

Schema.org was collaboratively founded by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo! and Yandex (Russia’s most popular search engine). Those search engines account for around 95% of the market, leaving about 5% for Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ask and Baidu. Judging by some pages that I work on that include Schema Markup, Bing was showing correctly whereas DuckDuckGo only partially displayed it correctly. So if you rely on those organic or paid search sources, or are looking to grow them to reach a particular market, be sure to explore further.

How is this different to Metatags and Open Graph (OG) tags?

The keywords metatag is obsolete. Search engines no longer use this tag for ranking or to assign keywords… Instead, these days search engines use the words on the page to decide their own keywords. However, the Title tag, description tag and canonical tags are still used.

Open Graph (Or OG) tags are specific to sharing on Facebook and other social media platforms (including LinkedIn). This tag determines what image and title is included when you’re page is shared.

So some metatags and OG tags need to coexist with Schema Markup.
